Charlie Savage will head back to Manchester United this summer buoyed by his first Football League loan experience.
The youngster has spent the last few months on loan at Forest Green Rovers in League One, and while he couldn't stop the club sliding into League Two after finishing bottom of the third tier, it has been a personal success for the 20-year-old.
He's made regular appearances plus netted his first senior goal and will now return to Old Trafford for pre-season in the hope of catching Erik ten Hag's eye. Another loan spell may well be next on the agenda for the midfielder but his dad Robbie, a former Premier League player and a former United youngster himself, feels the spell in Gloucestershire was the perfect preparation for what is to come.

Writing on Twitter, Savage senior said: "Fifteen games in League One, your first senior goal, great experience. Thank you Forest Green, a fantastic club. Now back to Man United."
That was in response to the Old Trafford youngster thanking Forest Green and manager Duncan Ferguson for his spell at the club. He wrote: "My time on loan at Forest Green comes to an end today. I would like to thank Duncan Ferguson especially and all of the staff at the club for helping me so much during my time here. I would also like to thank the fans for welcoming me and for their amazing support throughout."
Savage made his senior United debut in December 2021 but is yet to play competitively under Erik ten Hag despite some handy showings in friendly fixtures. He scored his first senior goal in Forest Green's home defeat to Bristol Rovers in February.
He signed a new contract at Old Trafford last summer keeping him at the club until at least June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year. The prospect has been capped at Under-21 level by Wales.
