Bacary Sagna names Arsenal to sign Newcastle United 'nightmare' Allan Saint-Maximin

Bacary Sagna wants former club Arsenal to buy “nightmare” Allan-Saint-Maximin from Newcastle United. The Gunners have already spent around £85million in the transfer market, with Gabriel Jesus’ arrival from Manchester City the most notable this summer.

Signing the Magpies’ maverick - who has four years left on his contract - would take their spending spree close to the £150million mark as Toon chiefs would command a sizeable fee. Saint-Maximin had been the undisputed fans’ favourite at St James’ Park since joining in 2019 until debate sparked between supporters last season.

While the majority are still behind the flamboyant Frenchman, some - including Newcastle legend and ChronicleLive columnist Malcolm Macdonald - have called for him to be sold. A lack of consistency has frustrated a section of supporters but he remains the Magpies’ most creative attacking outlet.

Now, ex-Gunners defender Sagna has urged Mikel Arteta to sign his compatriot. The 39-year-old spent seven years in North London and believes Saint-Maximin can “electrify” the Emirates Stadium.

“I really like Allan Saint-Maximin a lot,” he told Lord Ping. “I love the way he plays, with so many tricks and skills. He is a nightmare for any defender.

“He is a player that can electrify a match, a stadium and make the difference. I would love to see him wearing an Arsenal shirt. He’s one player I really like, but I’m not sure Arsenal could sign him because he would want to play every game.”
