A 30-year-old Adelaide man will remain in custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of a toddler he was babysitting.
Ronan Davies was taken to hospital with severe head and other internal injuries on June 7 and died two days later.
A subsequent police investigation focused on a two-day period when the 17-month-old had been cared for by Quentin Corrigan, described as a family friend.
The boy's father had been unable to rouse his son when he was returned.
On Wednesday, Corrigan appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court where he made no application for bail.
A prosecutor asked for the matter to be adjourned until April next year to allow time for an autopsy report and for a report from the treating pediatrician to be prepared.
Corrigan was remanded in custody to appear again by audio visual link on April 2.
Last week, Detective Inspector Mark McEachern said Ronan's injuries would not have been obvious to his father.
"Ronan's been returned home, apparently asleep," Insp McEachern said.
"We suspect he sustained injuries prior to that."
Police also appealed to anyone who heard or saw anything involving a young child in Ferguson Street at Glenelg North on the afternoon of June 7 to come forward.
That included anyone with dashcam footage of the area from that afternoon.
