Baby rushed to hospital following 'serious' crash with road shut

A baby has been taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle collision in Altrincham, fire services have confirmed.

Emergency services were scrambled to Shaftesbury Avenue in Timperley at around 12.20 this afternoon following reports of a 'serious' road traffic collision. The road remains closed, with North West Air Ambulance and police in attendance.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) say two cars collided head on - one of which had a baby on board. The baby has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for 'precautionary' checks.

Traffic is reportedly slow around Shaftesbury Avenue, with the road closed in both directions. Drivers are being encouraged to seek alternative routes.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At around 12.20pm on Sunday 9 October, firefighters were called out to a road traffic collision on Shaftesbury Avenue, Timperley.

“Two fire engines, from Stretford and Withington, attended the scene where two cars had collided head on. A baby, on board one of the vehicles, has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for precautionary checks. Crews were in attendance for ten minutes, whist they made the cars and scene safe.”
