Baby names in the UK that are verging on extinction - with one royal favourite snubbed

Every year sees new baby name trends, as some parents bring back classic monikers and others are relegated to the history books.

But you'll likely be surprised to learn a royal favourite is now among the lowest-ranked choices, according to experts.

The pros over at Protectivity have worked out the most uncommon baby names - and it's bad news for King Charles.

While you can expect to hear the monarch's name everywhere this year thanks to his coronation, it will be rare to hear it called across a playground.

When analysts looked into ONS' latest release, which charts baby names in England and Wales, they found Charles performed poorly - ranking at 92.

Likewise, Beatrice did not fare well, coming in further behind in the 99th spot.

So it should be no surprise both ranked worst of all the royal baby names considered by Protectivity.

George, Harry, and Archie secured the top three royal spots, and Isla, Mia and Charlotte performed best when girls' names shared by royal family members were considered.

Meanwhile, on the general list, other uncommon boys' names included Myles, Nathan, Tobias, Jackson, Ollie, and Harvey, and the researchers found Sara, Lara, Anna, Lilly, and Holly did not fare among baby girls.

However, it was a different story for names like Oliver, Olivia, Tommy, Fatima, Amelia, and Muhammad - all of which ranked as the most popular name in one or more UK towns or cities.

As name fans will remember, the reveal caused quite a stir last year when it was revealed Noah reigned supreme as the most popular boys' name for 2021.

Although it remained a popular pick, the results saw Oliver knocked off the top spot for the first time in eight years.

Elsewhere, Olivia remained a favourite name for girls, earning the top spot for six years in a row.
