Brittany Higgins has given birth to a baby boy.

The former federal staffer announced the news on Instagram on Sunday night.

In the photo Ms Higgins shared, the baby is covered in a blanket with his face covered by a love heart sticker.

"Last night we welcomed our little boy into the world," Ms Higgins posted.

"We're both looking forward to getting to dote on the newest member of the family."

By Monday morning the post had almost 7500 likes.

Ms Higgins and her husband David Sharaz did not share their son's name or other details of the birth.

Ms Higgins was thrown into the public spotlight in 2021 when she claimed she had been sexually assaulted in Parliament House by her colleague Bruce Lehrmann.

Lehrmann's trial for the alleged rape 2019 was abandoned in October 2022 because of juror misconduct.

A retrial did not occur because of concerns for Ms Higgins' mental health.

Lehrmann, who has maintained his innocence, sued media outlets for defamation in civil action in the Federal Court, which ultimately found he had raped Ms Higgins.
