A six-month-old girl has died after a collision in a multistorey car park in a popular Welsh seaside town.

Sophia Kelemen, from Leigh in Greater Manchester, was injured in the collision on the ground floor of the car park in Tenby, south-west Wales, on 2 January.

Sophia was taken to hospital but Dyfed-Powys police said on Monday that she had died of her injuries the following day.

Flaviu Naghi, aged 33, from Wigan, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and driving without a licence and without insurance.

Dyfed-Powys police said: “He appeared at Swansea magistrates court on Saturday 4 January, where he was further remanded to appear before Swansea crown court on 7 February. He was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving and drug driving and has been released on bail for these offences.”

A spokesperson added: “This is a tragic incident and is a live investigation. We ask that you do not speculate the circumstances. Our thoughts remain with her family at this difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.”

Through the police, the family issued photos of Sophia including one that was taken on a spot overlooking one of Tenby’s sandy beaches. Another showed her pictured with her mother, father and her older brother, who have not been named.
