A 25-year-old man has been charged after a 10-month-old baby was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The child was taken by ambulance from a home in Warrane, east of Hobart, at about 1.10am on Friday.

Tasmania Police were called to the Royal Hobart Hospital around 5.20am because the baby's injuries were believed to be suspicious.

Police have since charged a 25-year-old man from Warrane with causing grievous bodily harm to a child.

"The child ... remains in a critical condition," police said in a statement on Sunday.

The man was due to appear before a court on Sunday.
