BA, Ryanair and easyJet strike dates as airline workers plan industrial action

Planned strikes at major airlines threaten to cause travel chaos for British holidaymakers next month. Staff at Ryanair and easyJet have confirmed they will take industrial action in the coming days in disputes over pay.

Meanwhile, British Airways staff at Heathrow airport have voted to strike. It comes after the airline failed to roll back a 10% pay cut imposed during the pandemic.

Thousands of British passengers are set to be caught up in the disruption after easyJet on-board crew in Spain voted to strike for a total of nine days in July. Ryanair staff, meanwhile, are planning a three-day walkout, also in Spain.

It comes as airports across Britain have faced chaotic scenes over recent months due to chronic staff shortages - leading to massive queues and in some cases even flight cancellations. Details of the strikes at a glance are as follows:

EasyJet strike dates in July

  • Easyjet workers in Spain will walk out in three phases across the month - From 1st to 3rd, 15th to 17th and 29th to 31st.

  • The three 72-hour stoppages, at fortnightly intervals, would see hundreds of crew strike at easyJet’s bases in Barcelona, Málaga and Palma.

  • Workers who belong to the Spanish USO union are looking for a 40% pay rise in low-paid cabin staff’s basic wage.

Ryanair strike dates for July

  • Ryanair staff’s three-day walkout over pay in Spain began today (Thursday, 30 June) and will run until July 2.

  • The walk-out will affect flights at 10 bases across the country - Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Alicante, Sevilla, Palma, Valencia, Girona, Santiago de Compostela and Ibiza.

  • Ryanair said it did not expect widespread disruption and claimed most crew would not support the planned action.

British Airways strike dates

  • Hundreds of British Airways staff at Heathrow have voted to strike over pay before the end of the summer.

  • No date has yet been set but it is likely to take place during the peak holiday period over the next two months - with some reports speculating it could be as early as July 8.

  • As many as 700 staff could walk out after both GMB and Unite members backed industrial action.
