Depending on who you ask about New Orleans Saints wide receiver, you may get a different answer. Some see him as a player who is destined to be a star, but others need to see more to believe. That division is why Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon called Olave the ninth most polarizing player in the NFL.
Gagnon looked at three sections for each player on the list: upside, downside, and key questions entering the year. You want the good news or the bad news first? Bad news? Ok.
Gagnon saw Olave’s drop in yards per target as concerning. Derek Carr as Olave’s quarterback didn’t result in the expected improvement. Olave registered more yards total, but Gagnon viewed Olave in a slight sophomore slump due yards per target and catch.
On a brighter note, Olave has crossed the century mark in spite of wholesale struggles on the offense. Olave’s first two seasons look similar to Ceedee Lamb. Lamb took a leap in Year 3 before exploding in Year 4. If Olave can follow his lead, he’d no longer be polarizing.
Gagnon’s questions stemmed from how will Carr and the offensive line perform. If those two entities can’t perform well, it’ll be hard to get production from the wide receivers. Gagnon also wants to know if Olave can bounce back from what he considered a slump
