B&M slammed by shoppers as 'criminal' for selling potted plants for just 1p

High-street store B&M has come under fire from shoppers for their "criminal" treatment of potted plants that they are selling for just 1p.

The popular retailer is selling a variety of potted plants that have been reduced from £6.50 to a literal penny as part of their clearance stock.

And while that might sound like an amazing bargain, shoppers looking for lively garden buys will be disappointed - as the plants are dried up and withered.

One shopper spotted the garden 'bargain' in their local store and shared a snap to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Group on Facebook, where it quickly went viral.

Sharing a snap of dried up plants, they wrote: "B&M bargain £6.50 to 1p. I think even Jesus couldn’t resurrect these. I suppose if you’re desperate for a plant pot 1p isn’t bad."

Quite a few shoppers were quick to make light-hearted jokes about the state of the plants, with some saying that even they "couldn't breathe life into them."

"I like to help plants from poorly corner but even I could not breath life into these", joked one shopper.

"I suppose if you need a fake beard for a party they would be great!", quipped a second.

While some saw the funny side, the comments section was quickly filled up with angry shoppers who debated the retailer's "neglect" and "waste of resources."

"It's criminal how supermarkets neglect their plants someone else's time and passion has gone into growing these for them to be left to die!!", slammed one angry shopper.

"Really annoys me when I see plants outside the shops like this. See it a lot. Such a waste", fumed a second.

A third angry shopper wrote: "Plants come into B&Ms and I swear they’re not watered at all once there. What an absolute waste of resources. These plants have cost money, water, electricity and transportation costs to just allow them to wither away and die for the lack of allocating a staff member to water them every day. Shocking."

While a fourth commented: "It horrible why can’t the Get some STAFF TO JUST WATER THEM SIMPLE. What a Waste."

Despite the harsh criticism from some, there were a few shoppers who encouraged others to buy the plants so that they could take care of them without paying the full price.

"For 1p it's worth buying and trying, I bet they come back to life even if it's next year", one shopper encouraged.

Other shoppers shared pictures of the 'dead' plants that they had purchased for pennies that had since grown into lively plants and bushes.
