B&M shopper secures £70 haul for just £3 using savvy scanner hack

A mum has left shoppers flabbergasted after she saved £67 in B&M - as she picked up a £70 basketful for just £3.

The popular bargain retailer is well-known for its cheap homeware, food, drink and furniture. And thanks to an unknown feature on the store's application, one mum has bagged a stunning bargain as she picked up a few things for her home.

Danielle Harper had purchased three rugs after coming across the hidden scanner on the B&M app, and was eager to share her discovery on social media. The shopper posted a photo of her haul on a Facebook group, writing: "Finally found a Bargain at B&M by using the scanner in the App! Each rug - £1 each!!"

Other shoppers were keen to discover how she had managed to bag the rugs for such a cheap price. And thankfully, Danielle was more than happy to explain, reports MEN.

The mum explained that the scanner lets you scan the barcode of any item in store to see if the price has been reduced. It mainly picks up items that are being sold off, including end of line and clearance products, which staff have not yet had chance to mark down in store.

On Facebook, Danielle said: "When you're in store open the app onto the scanner and you can scan anything you want that they sell. I've been doing it a while and only just found these bargains so it can be hit and miss, but there's lots of 'sets' etc in the sale after Xmas so it's a great time to use the scanner to find some cheaper things as they don't always mark them down on the shelves."

The scan feature can be found at the bottom of the app. (MEN)

After discovering this nifty hack, lots of other shoppers were desperate for a B&M trip to use their new trick. One Facebook user wrote: "We need to download the app and have a day out in B&M scanning for bargains."

Another said: "We need to go!!"

And a third wrote: "How did I not know about this."

One woman said when she's tried it but the barcode isn't always recognised on the scanner, to which someone replied it could be even more of a bargain.

The reply read: "If the item isn’t recognised in the scanner and it’s older stock it’s usually 10p. Sometimes it can be new stock that isn’t on the system yet, but 90 per cent of the time it’s 10p."

A spokesperson for B&M said the scanner launched around three years ago and has built up a huge following - it's so popular in fact that there are Facebook groups where people share what they've managed to find in stores.

She said: "B&M aim to provide customers with an exciting shopping experience, always offering great products at fantastic prices. We’re delighted that our customers love finding a bargain deal as much as we do, and the scanner app has continued to grow in popularity since it launched.

"The dedication shown by the army of bargain hunters to seek out the best deals is proof that everybody loves a bargain."
