B&M shopper confused amid claims staff 'snaffled all the bargains'

A B&M shopper has been left confused after overhearing that staff "snaffled" bargains for themselves.

After spotting a discount for Bluetooth speakers on Facebook the man decided to purchase them from the retailer.

But when he went to scan the device at the Stoke on Trent store, the barcode wasn't working, so the 38-year-old says he asked for help to buy the speakers, which he had seen had been reduced from £25 to £5.

The man then claims he overheard a family member being tipped off about the discount.

Staff then allegedly removed device from the shelves and placed it behind the till, StokeOnTrentLive reports.

The shopper eventually left empty-handed.

B&M have emailed the man promising to look into the incident.

The Longton resident said: "There's a Facebook page called 'Banging Bargains'. Someone said they've got these bluetooth speakers for £5 so I went to one of the stores.

"They've got something where you scan a product in the shop and it gives you a price but on that day the barcode machine was not working.

"I was confused as to whether it was £5 or £25 so I tried to find somebody in the store. A staff member told one of their family members how much it was and as I was standing there they just took the £25 stickers off, said it's £5 and took them all to the till.

"There were four sets of speakers on the shelf. I was planning to get one for myself. When I was standing there the woman in the shop beat me to it.

"I didn't want to cause an argument so I just let it go.

"It's a bit wrong. I heard them say stuff like I'll see you later so I know it's some family member or friend.

"I emailed B&M about it and they said they are going to have a word with the store manager. They shouldn't be saving stuff for family and friends.

"On the shelf it said £25 when really it's £5. I was upset.

"I'm not happy with their response but what can they do? They can't ask for it back. What's happened has already happened but it shouldn't have happened."

The shopper says he has since been put off returning to B&M.

He added: "I used to go in every day but now I tend to keep away."

In an email to the customer, B&M said: "Please accept my apologies you had such a reason to contact B&M

"The great products and excellent value we offer are designed to provide our customers with the very best service on the high street and we do not expect our store teams to put deals aside without letting our customers have their chance.

"I will ensure this is fed back to the store managers throughout the company to ensure that this practice is stopped and that our customers have a fair chance to get the deals.

"I hope this does not deter you from shopping at B&M again and hopefully when you return you will find more bargains on the shelves for our customers."
