B&M announces opening date for new Swansea store

Popular store B&M has announced the opening date of its brand new store in Swansea West Retail Park in Fforestfach, and it will include a massive garden centre. The discount retailer, which already has other units located at Parc Tawe Retail Park, Cwmdu, and Swansea Enterprise Park, is moving into the old Argos and Currys at West Swansea Retail Park, which was once known as Pontardulais Road Retail Park.

It will create a 34,475 square foot store that will include a mezzanine. It will undergo a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme before officially opening its doors at 8am on Friday, May 26. And it will deliver a jobs boost, with 60 jobs new created. Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries including a range of food, drink, and pet food.

There will also be a selection of health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts and plenty more to explore. Outside, the store will boast its own 4,865 square foot garden centre, selling hundreds of plant varieties and gardening essentials. Get Swansea stories straight to your inbox with our newsletter.

A spokeswoman from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store. We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door.”

Its arrival will be a welcome boost for the retail park, which has been run by LaSalle Investment Management since the end of 2011 and has also not been immune to the struggles of the retail sector. While the current line-up of stores features Bensons for Beds, One Below, Hobbycraft, Pets at Home, Cancer Research UK, Costa, Mountain Warehouse, Marks & Spencer and Dunelm, units once occupied by Currys and Argos have been left unfilled leaving a chunk of the retail park empty.

B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK. From its first store in Blackpool, Lancashire, B&M has grown to have more than 700 stores and employs in excess of 35,000 staff.
