The gold medal bout featured Kotsoiev against Georgia's Ilia Sulaimanidze. The match took a decisive turn when Sulaimanidze received three shido warnings from the officials. One warning was for a false attack, while the other two were for grip avoidance.

As a result of the accumulated warnings, Kotsoiev was declared the winner by ippon, securing the gold medal for Azerbaijan. This victory marked a significant achievement for Kotsoiev and added to the country's growing success in judo at the event.

Additionally, Peter Paltchik of Israel and Muzaffarbek Turoboyev of Uzbekistan claimed the bronze medals in the competition, showcasing the diverse talent and competitive spirit present at the tournament.
