Azealia Banks has taken her feud with Matty Healy to the next level by sending him a cease and desist letter. In her legal document, Banks requested a USD $1 million (AUD $1.56 million) settlement and a public apology from The 1975 singer. I’m serious!!!
ICYMI, their beef kicked off on X (formerly Twitter) after Banks took aim at Charli xcx, saying she “used to be so pretty”. Look, by now we all know that Banks has a loooooot of opinions online, and you probably shouldn’t engage. Seems like Healy wasn’t aware, because he clapped back and told Banks to “just rap, bro”, because the rapper is “talented” but “a failure”.
After Banks declared that Healy and his fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel look like they “share needles”, Healy’s response was equally bonkers.
“I’ll fucking slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness World Record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown,” he tweeted. A prime example of why some tweets should stay in the drafts.
Healy did issue an apology online and deactivated his X account, but it seems like it’s too little, too late.
Banks shared the entire cease and desist letter on X, tagging both The 1975’s account and their manager Jamie Oborne.
The letter focuses on Healy’s threats of violence, with her lawyer Wallace J. Collins III saying the musician’s actions have “seriously damaged and will continue to damage my client”.
“Your attacks against my client’s professional reputation, your overt racial epithets, and your most recent threats of physical violence against my client have been well-documented since you published them worldwide online (my client saved screenshots to you deleting your posts), and your attacks have now been republished in numerous press articles throughout the world,” the letter reads.
“Your removal of the damaging attack posts and your acknowledgement that your reaction was inappropriate does not undo the damage, but rather constitutes evidence of an admission of guilt by you.”

Banks’ legal team suggests the parties come to an amicable agreement without having to go to court. However, the lawyer did mention Banks has already asked her legal team to draft both a summons and a complaint.
The letter finishes with a demand that Healy stop making any defamatory statements or threats towards Banks, he issue a public apology and $1 million in compensation.
Healy has yet to respond to Banks’ letter, but I’m eagerly awaiting to see what unfolds next. Banks is the one person online you don’t want to feud with, and I guess he’s only just learning that lesson now!
