Ayrshire restaurant offering five-course Christmas dinner for £25 cooked by future chefs

An Ayrshire restaurant is taking bookings for an incredible £25 Christmas lunch.

The festive five-course spectacular will be cooked by future culinary stars at the Salt & Barrel restaurant in Kilmarnock.

The eaterie is attached to Ayrshire College on Hill Street and enables students to hone cooking and hospitality skills while offering incredible value for paying customers.

A special Christmas menu will run on various dates from November 22 right up to December 21.

Traditional festive fare will be on offer along with modern classics and a few contemporary takes on tried and tested favourites.

Salt & Barrel Christmas menu

Starters

  • Chicken liver pate with red onion marmalade and oatcakes
  • Prawn Marie rose with buttered brown bread
  • Fantail of melon served with raspberry sorbet

Soup

  • Homemade Lentil

Mains

  • Traditional turkey with all the trimmings
  • Beef bourguignon
  • Seared Cajun salmon
  • Roasted vegetable parcel with a tomato and herb sauce (vg)

All served with rosemary potatoes, carrots, sprouts and creamed potatoes

Dessert

  • Sticky toffee Christmas pudding with a kumquat glaze, butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream (vg)
  • Profiteroles with a chocolate sauce
  • Mango cheesecake with a ginger nut base cheese and biscuits

To Finish

  • Tea or coffee with homemade treat

The meal costs £25 per person for five courses and diners can also enjoy a chilled glass of wine, beer or a soft drink with their meal, then relax with a speciality coffee or tea in the contemporary surroundings.
