Ayrshire pupil rushed to hospital after being 'knocked down' outside school

An Ayrshire secondary school pupil has been rushed to hospital after being 'knocked down' outside school.

The Auchenharvie Academy student is understood to have been involved in a road traffic collision earlier this afternoon on Stevenston's Saltcoats Road.

North Ayrshire Council have said the pupil is being treated in hospital, understood to be Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the pupil has not been disclosed.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We are aware that an Auchenharvie Academy pupil is currently being cared for in hospital and we wish them a speedy recovery.

“The incident itself is a matter for Police Scotland and so it would not be appropriate for North Ayrshire Council to provide any further comment at this time.”

Auchenharvie Parent Council posted on Facebook that a child had been 'knocked down' and that the road outside the school was shut to buses.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
