An Ayrshire nursing home has been given more time to make improvements to aspects of the care it provides.
Cumnor Hall, in Ayr’s Racecourse View, has been given until Sunday, October 16 to carry out the necessary work.
The Care Inspectorate visited the home last month to follow-up on a previous requirement made in relation to Domestic Service Room (DSR) facilities.
And while they noted that the work was already underway, extra time has been allowed so that the improvements can be completed.
An extract from the Care Inspectorate report said: “A requirement was made at the previous inspection to ensure that DSR facilities in the home were improved. This would protect people using the service from the risk of infection.
“The provider had put an action plan in place to manage the improvements needed. The work to improve the DSR facilities started on August 22, 2022. The provider gave assurances that the work to improve the facilities would be completed.
“To allow time for the improvements to be completed, we have reinstated this requirement with a new timescale of October 16, 2022.”
Cumnor Hall is registered to provide a care home service to a maximum of 31 older people living with dementia. This includes a respite service for a maximum of four people at any one time.
The provider is the Church of Scotland, trading as Crossreach.
This latest inspection, carried out last month, was a virtual one.
The Care Inspectorate said: “To prepare for the inspection, we reviewed information about this service. This included previous inspection findings, registration information, information submitted by the service and intelligence gathered since the last inspection.”
In making their evaluations of the service the scrutiny body spoke with three staff and management and reviewed documents.
According to the Care Inspectorate the care home staff were “working hard” to progress with requirements and areas for improvement from the last inspection.
The improvement works include the installation of a second domestic service room, ensuring that each floor of the home has access to an “appropriate facility” to support infection prevention and control measures, as well as the installation of hand washing facilities in both domestic service rooms, to ensure the domestic service rooms are equipped with “suitable waste disposal sinks”, in line with Care Inspectorate guidance.
The report adds: “This is to ensure that care and support is consistent with the health and social care standards.”
