Ayrshire marina named second best in UK after cool £1.4m cash splash

An Ayrshire marina has been named the second best in the UK.

Troon Yacht Haven scooped the runner-up prize in the UK Marina of the Year 2022 Awards.

The Troon marina was praised after investing more than £1.4 million into facilities, including a new luxury hotel, The Salt Lodge.

The awards were handed out after boat owners from around the UK had their say and were impressed.

As well as opening The Salt Lodge, the South Ayrshire marina also created a berth holder lounge and upgraded the laundrette.

The latest recognition comes after the marina was awarded a Five Gold Anchor after a glowing report, and given praise in the Scottish Parliament.

Director Stephen Bennie said: “It’s a real honour to receive this award from The Yacht Harbour Association.

“It’s been a rewarding year with new customers visiting our marina and increased occupancy at our hotel, The Salt Lodge.

“What makes this award extra special is that it was voted for by boat owners around the UK.

“This gives us the validation that the investments we’ve made in new services and facilities have been well-received by our market, and we’re extremely grateful to everyone who voted for us.”

The Marina of the Year Awards were presented at the Southampton International Boat Show on England's south coast.

Royal Quays Marina of North Shields in the north-east of England ran out winners.

The Yacht and Harbour Association (TYHA) general manager Jon White said: “These awards are voted for by berth holders and celebrate the very best marinas, both in the UK and overseas, and provide a perfect opportunity to recognise those marinas that go above and beyond, offering outstanding quality and service to their berth holders and visitor.”
