Ayrshire care workers have started their West Highland Way challenge in memory of their tragic work colleague and dear friend.
Eight ladies who work at South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership are on their way to complete a near 100 mile trek dedicated to pal Shona McKinlay, who was killed in a devastating car crash last year.
Roslyn Hodge and Jane Brown are leading colleagues, Trisha, Audrey, Barbara-Anne, Evonne, June, and Pamela along the iconic route which stretches across hills, lochs and vast countryside all the way to the foot of Ben Nevis, in Fort William.
Ayrshire Live told last week how the ladies were aiming to complete the trek to coin it in for two charities close to mum-of-two Shona's heart - Poppy Scotland and The Royal British Legion.
Today, the ladies have been spotted at the start point in Milngavie as they set out to battle the elements and remember their bubbly colleague and friend.
And they have already smashed their £3,000 target set for the two beneficiaries which Rangers-daft Shona supported throughout her life.
Shona, 46, died at the scene of a crash on the A70 just outside Ayr in the early hours of October 28, 2022.
The ladies who built a strong bond with the bubbly Dreghorn mum, vowed to take on the huge challenge in her honour just months after her shock death.
Last week Rosyln told how big-hearted Shona is "sorely missed" as they prepared for their task.
Rosyln Hodge who helped organise the walk said: “It’s going to be emotional at times, remembering all the laughs and good times we had with Shona."
