Ayrshire burger challenge smashed by Randy Santel as YouTuber stuns chef and crowd in Prestwick

An Ayrshire food challenge dubbed ‘impossible’ by its creator has been smashed by a famous American YouTuber.

Randy Santel faced up to Big Dibby’s “big durty cow” burger challenge at The Buf in Prestwick.

The US online star boasts 1.7 million subscribers for his clips hoovering up calorific trays of food.

And even he thought he might have met his match when he was thrown down the gauntlet of taking on chef Dibby's monster munch.

A gigantic tower of five five-ounce burger patties, stuffed with chilli con carne, onion rings and Ayrshire bacon stood before him on Monday at lunchtime.

Nestled next to the burger sat a stack of eight chicken fajita goujons, 10 hot wings, a bowl of chilli cheese fries and a bowl of coleslaw.

All of which had to be finished off in 30 minutes.

Randy scoffed the lot with 40 seconds to spare before washing it all down with a well-deserved pint of Tennent’s.

The star was greeted by fans who packed into the venue's beer garden to witness the feast which was also live-streamed.

Chef Big Dibby (Christopher Dibden) even decided to cook one for himself and took a seat next Randy to try and take on the pro, but was defeated after 16 minutes as Randy ploughed on.

Dibby told Ayrshire Live: “I got about three bites of the two burgers, some of the goujons and wings...I must be sick of the sight of it!

“I failed miserably but Randy is an absolute machine, he’s an absolute genius at what he does. I thought it was impossible...well, nothing is when it comes to Randy.

“He even managed a pint as well. I was nearly sick trying to down mine.

“It was a great turnout. It brought a real buzz to the place.”

Randy, who is on a whistle-stop tour of Scotland’s toughest food challenges, heaped praise on the food – with a special mention to Ayrshire bacon.

He said: “It went great, that is a lot of food. That is a lot of food. I was worried about it from the start but I just kept on eating.

“It is a very difficult challenge to eat that in a 30-minute time limit.

“As far as taste goes, I really enjoyed it. I much prefer the bacon over here as it's not as stringy as it is back home.

"Scotland has been great, we love it here, but I don't think there's as many big eaters. We've taken on four undefeated challenges and now passed four."

Randy was blown away by the support he was given.

He said: “For a Monday afternoon, to have that kind of turnout is pretty awesome.

“The weather was perfect and we’ve got to pay a special thanks to Big Dibby and everyone at The Buf, they really do have some great food."

Randy’s trip to South Ayrshire came hot on the heels of another Ayrshire challenge on Sunday in Kilmarnock, where he also watched his girlfriend Katina tackle a monstrous breakfast sandwich.

The pair are now heading to Inverness and will spend three weeks in total in the country.
