Ayr United winger Jayden Mitchell-Lawson relishes rough welcome to Scottish football

Jayden Mitchell-Lawson reckons that defenders trying to boot him in the air is a GOOD thing.

The Ayr United winger was given a rough welcome to the Scottish Championship on Saturday by Arbroath.

But the flying machine says it proves he was doing his job – and has promised fans there’s far more to come.

The former Derby kid said: “I was warned before the game that they were that sort of team but I take it as a compliment.

"If people have to trip me up because I’ve got past them, then I’m doing my job.

“I’ve been used to it ever since I started playing men’s football and it just comes with the territory.

Arbroath resorted to uncompromising tactics to stop the Ayr new boy (Alan Graham)

“I really enjoyed myself despite the treatment I got and it’s good because I know I’ve got more to come.

“I’m still building my fitness up because I joined the group later on in pre-season.”

Mitchell-Lawson was outstanding as Ayr tore into the Lichties during a first half in which they should have been out of sight.

And the new boy believes it's only a matter of time before United click in front of goal.

He added: “We know the goals will come and we just have to keep doing what we’re doing.

“We absolutely battered them in terms of chances and anyone who’s watching us can see how well we’re playing at the minute.

"We have a real belief and the performances are there for sure. There's definitely no problems on that front.

"As players we are confident it’s coming and now it’s on to a good week of training to prepare for a big game on Friday night.”
