Josh Mullin opened the door to extending his Ayr stay after another door shut on their chance of Premiership football.
United are licking their wounds after an 8-0 beating in the pay-off semis by a rampant Partick Thistle, meaning attention now turns to a summer of reinforcing the Somerset ranks.
And Mullin - who contributed nine goals a stack of assists this season - insists he'd be more than happy to continue plying his trade under Lee Bullen, who has found himself linked with managerless Dundee in recent days.
Mullin said: "I don't know what's happening, it's not something I've spoken about given the important games we've had to play recently. I'll take some time now with the family and see what happens. But I'd definitely be open to staying, everyone knows I love it here. It's hard to think about having just come off the back of a result like this and we'll take time over the next few days to see how things go.
"The manager has done brilliantly here and it's no surprise if he's touted for elsewhere. I love working under him - he's a great guy first and foremost. And the out of contract boys here will rightly have other options now having done so well under him.
"All I can say is this is a magnificent club and you saw that with the support over the last two weeks. Anyone who comes to play here is privileged."
Mullin and Ayr were sunk without trace as they attempted to overhaul a 3-0 first leg deficit at Somerset on Friday night. Jack McMillan's early goal all but killed the tie before Dipo Akinyemi's controversial 25th minute red card turned the night into a damage limitation exercise for United.
Mullin said: "We wanted to correct what happened last week and I thought we started the game well again. But we lose a similar goal and shoot ourselves in the foot. I didn't think it was a sending off for Dipo but we had to get on with it and unfortunately it was just too much for us in the end.
"It's still been a massive season for the club but it's frustrating to end on two games like that. It's hard to look on things positively after that but we have to try and pick out the positives of what has been a magnificent season. Our aim now has to be to try and go one better next season."
