Ayr United's Paddy Reading bids to hit goal trail after derby night heroics against Kilmarnock

Paddy Reading became an instant hero to Ayr United fans with his Rugby Park winner.

But the full-back insists he should be bursting the net far more often following his derby night heroics.

Reading fizzed home a fine strike with 10 minutes to go as The Honest Men completed a famous 2-1 victory over their bitter rivals.

And although it was only his third goal in United colours – there's no doubt it was his most important contribution to the cause.

He said: "I do need to score more goals, but if they come in ones and they're in derbies then I'll take it.

"Getting a derby win is amazing but the importance of the three points is what we have to kick on from.

"We've been showing we can match teams but tonight has shown we can match a team at the top of the table.

"The progress has been there the last few games but the results just haven't been going for us.

"So if we can't kick on after this we have a problem.

"Nobody wants the pressure of being down there - we shouldn't be down there to start with and we know that.

"This gives the fans and the town something to cheer about, they've been fantastic the last few weeks and it's great we can give them something back."
