Ayr United dish out new contract offers as club seeks 'continuity' following survival

Ayr United will use the summer to build for their long term future, says managing director Graeme Mathie.

Friday night’s Championship survival drama has set the stage for a positive pre-season at Somerset.

The thrilling 3-1 win over Partick Thistle sparked jubilant scenes at Somerset Park.

And Mathie insists Ayr will now bid to lay the foundations for years to come.

United have held “positive discussions” with top scorer Tomi Adeloye with a view to extending the striker’s stay.

New deals have also been offered to the vast majority of Lee Bullen’s squad.

Mathie told the Post: “We’ve got a fantastic chance now to build some real continuity into the club moving forward.

“The atmosphere on Friday night was fantastic and the sense of togetherness between players and supporters was great to see.

“Lee has been clear since day one that if we can keep the core of this group together, he sees a lot of potential in them.”

On Adeloye, who is sure to attract suitors following his hit season, Mathie added: “We’ve made clear to Tomi how loved and appreciated he is at Ayr United.

"We feel he can flourish with another year at Somerset.”

Markus Fjortoft, Alex Kenyon and Michael Miller have left following the expiry of their deals, while the club have agreed terms on Ryan Gondoh’s release.

James Maxwell has returned to parent club Rangers while Celtic have told Kerr McInroy that he is free to leave Parkhead, with Ayr poised to offer terms.

New deals have been offered to Paddy Reading, Andy Murdoch, Ben Dempsey, Michael Moffat, Charlie Albinson, Jack Baird, Daire O'Connor and Aaron Muirhead.
