Ayr United diehard puts his shirt on backing club's women and girls

An Ayr United superfan has thrown his cash behind the club's women and girls setup.

Alan Gray, who has followed the Honest Men across the country for more than three decades, is now putting his shirt on the progressive ladies camp.

His multimedia brand, Memories By Movie, will adorn the Ayr Ladies away and Girls Under 12s shirts.

Added to a string of player sponsorships in the men's first team, it represents a significant investment for diehard Alan.

He said: "Having followed Ayr United up and down the country for 35 years, the chance to put my company's logo on the shirt was something I couldn't pass up!

"After reading the article about Andrew Lindsay fulfilling a lifelong dream of sponsoring the away strip, I knew I had to get involved.

"After a few conversations with Martin Tocker (commercial manager) and Clare Docherty (head of United women and girls), I was sponsoring the Ayr Ladies away strip and under 12s strip, as well as Fraser Bryden's away top, Alex Kirk's third strip and our next signing's home top.

"In the line of work I do, I won't be able to get to many games this year, so I'm delighted to be able to support the club in this way."

Commercial chief Tocker told the Ayrshire Post: “At a time when the women’s game is going from strength to strength, it’s great to see our own United Ladies and Girls increasing their profile with each passing week.

“Alan is a well known Honest Man and his desire to associate his own business brand with the ladies’ setup is another significant and important step forward and more vital investment for the club from a hugely valued local firm.”

Docherty, who heads the Somerset women's setup, added: "It's a real sign of the progress we're making that someone like Alan was so keen to come on board with us.

"In the past, businesses maybe viewed the women's game with hesitation but now they see the kind of profile we're getting and it's a great boost for both parties."
