Sean McGinty admits Ayr United have 90 minutes to set the record straight on their season - before kicking on with the Somerset Park revolution.
The skipper will lead his side into tomorrow night's crunch clash at home to Partick, with Ayr knowing a win keeps them in the Championship.
But McGinty readily admits United should not be needing a last gasp survival bid to steer clear of trouble.
And he insists one last push over the line can lead to brighter days ahead.
He said: "We've definitely underachieved and never thought we'd be in this situation with one game to go.
"But we are where we are and now have to deal with it.
"And I think you've seen in the last few weeks that we've been really calm and controlled the majority of games - we just haven't taken our chances at the right times.
"On Friday, everyone needs to be calm, cool and collected and make sure when the chances come we take them."
McGinty, who recently activated a one year extension on his contract at Somerset, is adamant he'll be playing Championship football with United next term.
And he said: "I believe in the group of players and it's just at key moments we've let ourselves down.
"But we've trained really well this week and everyone is looking forward to the game.
"Hopefully we can put on a show to make sure we get this club over the line.
"We're disappointed that we didn't get the win last week at Queens but that's done now.
"We have to take all the positives from that game and put it out on the pitch on Friday night.
"And the 11 players who are picked have to go out there and give it everything.
"We know if we win the game we're safe so it doesn't matter what's happening elsewhere.
"So we focus on our own performances and get the job done and then start planning for next year."
