Lee Bullen hailed Andy Murdoch for the collector's item strike that rescued a late Championship point for Ayr against Hamilton.
Murdoch rifled home a 30 yard stunner as United were forced to fight back after letting slip an early lead.
But Bullen insists Ayr shouldn't have needed Murdoch's moment of brilliance to dig them out of a hole.
The head coach said: "I think Murdy goals are like hen's teeth - especially left foot strikes from outside the box.
"But fair play he's come up with a cracker and along with the other boys, he kept going to the end to ensure we got something today.
"To be honest, though, it probably still feels like two points lost. It would have been a very sore one to take nothing given how we played.
"We created a number of chances before having a wee lull in the second half and then came strong again at the end.
"The players have a responsibility to get the fans up for it. There's also the odd occasion when the players drop, the fans can help.
"And you could see the difference when we got that goal in the last ten minutes and the fans were almost willing it into the net and we could have gone on to win it.
"We're all together in this and when we help each other through it, that's what we need.
"That's us three games undefeated and I guess we have to be satisfied with that and move forward to next week now."
Ayr got off to a flyer as last week's two goal hero Dipo Akinyemi touched home from two yards after Daire O'Connor had hit the post.
United continued to push early and Paddy Reading also clipped the woodwork with a free kick.
But Accies drew level on 15 minutes with a brilliant strike from Andy Winter, who curled home from 25 yards.
The early pace was relentless and Akinyemi hit the post again for Ayr as they looked to edge back in front.
Akinyemi was then denied from the spot on the stroke of half time after Michael Doyle's foul on O'Connor but the penalty was well saved by Ryan Fulton.
The United number nine was denied by the linesman's flag shortly after half time when he had the ball in the net.
And Ayr started to show signs of slowing after that, reverting to a five across midfield.
Accies grew in confidence and they hit the front when Dan O'Reilly rose to head home a Reegan Mimnaugh corner.
Sam Ashford had a diving header tipped wide by Fulton as Ayr tried to hit back for a point.
But United then raised the roof when Murdoch turned to lash home a left foot thunderbolt from 30 yards.
Accies boss John Rankin said: "It feels like a defeat for us.
"We've scored two goals away from home and to only take a point is bitterly disappointing."
