Ayr care home hailed for "compassionate staff" and "highly motivated" leaders

Bosses at Creggan Bahn Court Care Home Service in Ayr are celebrating a positive report on their care provision following an unannounced inspection.

The nursing home in Seafield Road was graded ‘very good’ across five quality indicators from the Care Inspectorate - the second highest grading possible.

It follows an unannounced inspection towards the end of March.

Creggan Bahn Court provides nursing and residential care for up to 58 people.

Among the key messages the Care Inspectorate said residents experienced “very good outcomes” supported by “compassionate staff” and “highly motivated” leaders.

And people’s health and wellbeing benefitted from a “very professional approach” to facilitating healthcare.

The care scrutiny body also said managers used effective “quality assurance processes” to support good outcomes for people, staff numbers and deployment were “well planned” and “regularly assessed” and residents benefitted from a “clean and comfortable environment” that was “well maintained and equipped.”

An extract from the report said: “We found significant strengths in aspects of the care provided.

“And people we spoke to were happy with their experiences of the service.

“Residents, families and external professionals appreciated their good relationships with the manager and staff.

“And we observed that staff treated people with warmth, compassion and respect. This helped people to feel settled and at ease.”

Creggan Bahn’s leadership, team, setting, planned care and support and ability to support people’s wellbeing were all graded at category five level, meaning ‘very good.’

And despite a recent change in the home’s ownership, this had not diminished the quality of care provided, according to the Care Inspectorate.

The report states: “Some people spoke about the recent change of the home’s ownership and their initial worries about the impact on them.

“Most people felt that there had been an inevitable period of unsettlement.

“However, they felt reassured by the continuity of management and acknowledged that things had settled and stabilised quickly.

“Staff appreciated the open, accessible and supportive style of management. This positive feedback supported our assessment of very good, competent and skilled leadership provided by the manager and her senior staff team.

“People’s feedback about the quality of management and leadership was very positive. People found the manager and other senior staff very accessible and responsive. This helped to make people feel confident about the service and made them feel involved and listened to.”

Jill Veitch, Regional Director, said: “We were delighted to receive the Grade 5 Care Inspectorate report and although this is what we expected to achieve, it is great to see that the hard work and dedication of the team at Creggan Bahn shone through.

"MMCG took over ownership of Creggan Bahn in June 2022 and with the leadership of Samantha (Baxter-Hendren) at the home we are delighted that the change has been seamless and the people who live with us are receiving the same high standards of care and attention as they have always experienced."

In other news, Creggan Bahn’s annual Garden Party will take place on Friday, June 30 with a Royal theme playing a big part.

The garden party will be held in the care home’s grounds and a welcome will be extended to residents, their families, and staff.

There will be entertainment, dancing, singing and plenty to eat and drink.
