Aymeric Laporte immediately mocks Arsenal defeat as Man City in driving seat for title

Aymeric Laporte appears to have mocked Arsenal with his latest tweet after the Manchester City defender posted a hilarious gif in response to the Gunners' recent defeat.

The City centre-back uploaded a gif of Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson alongside the caption 'Mmmmmmm I can almost smell it', in reference to just how close Laporte's side are now to lifting a fifth Premier League title in six seasons. Arsenal's 3-0 home defeat by Brighton has all but handed over the crown to Pep Guardiola's side.

The Gunners were second best to the Seagulls for the majority of the game at the Emirates and can hardly have any complaints over the end result on their own patch.

Julio Enciso opened the scoring for the visitors when he was left unmarked inside the six-yard box to head beyond the helpless Aaron Ramsdale. Replays soon showed that Gunners defender Jakub Kiwior had gone down clutching his ankle, which is what allowed Enciso the time and space to punish Arsenal.

The Gunnes failed to create any kind of meaningful chances in response to falling behind and shortly before second-half stoppage time they were two behind when Deniz Undav lobbed Ramsdale to spark wild celebrations in the away end of the Emirates.

Pervis Estupinan ended the game with a third and final goal deep into second-half stoppage time, by which time many of the home faithful had already made tracks for the exit.

Though it is still technically possible for Arsenal to lift the title, City are now just one win away and have three games to do so.

Up next for Guardiola's men is a home clash against Chelsea, a tie they go into as overwhelming favourites given the Blues' miserable season and poor run of recent results.

The City boss is clearly confident that his side can get the job done, given he was chanting "two more wins" to the away end at Goodison Park earlier on Sunday afternoon following their 3-0 win away at Everton.

Many expected City to have a difficult time of it against Sean Dyche's men after the Toffees battered Brighton last Monday, but an Erling Haaland header either side of an Ilkay Gundogan brace made the game very comfortable for the reigning champions.

The mood is understandably low among the Arsenal camp, with Gunners captain Martin Odegaard admitting: "Yeah, it feels like that [whether the title is over]. It is going to be very difficult now we have to be honest. It is tough to take.

"It is not a good feeling at the moment. The way we played, particularly in the second half, I don't know what happened to be honest. It feels like there is no hope now."
