Former U.S. Amateur champion Andy Ogletree was among the first group of golfers to make the jump to the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series, featuring in their first event back in June.
However, after finishing last he has not played in another one of their events, with LIV signing up more big names like Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith. "I kind of got the boot because I played bad," Ogletree admitted in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
"I wanted to play all of them. I was understanding that I was to play more than once. But after the great turnout they had, everyone seemed to want to play [LIV Golf]. I just didn't take advantage of that opportunity."
And with every golfer who featured in LIV's inaugural event getting suspended by the PGA Tour, Ogletree's only option was to take part in the Asian Tour's new International Series, which was launched in partnership with LIV earlier this year.
Ogletree featured in events in Singapore, Korea and Morocco, before recording his first professional victory in Egypt this weekend, banking $1.5m in prize money.
"I have no regrets," he added of his decision to join LIV. "It gave me somewhere to play. It gave me the opportunity to get into the Asian Tour as well.
"My big thing was I just wanted a guaranteed place to play. I didn't feel I was getting better playing Monday qualifiers. And playing mini-tours.
"What presented itself was LIV. It definitely helped that I was able to make some money and was able to fund what I was doing for the rest of the year."
Ogletree's suspension from the PGA Tour is set to be lifted as of 1 January 2023. However, Sports Illustrated note that he is 'expected to get a LIV Golf spot in 2023'.
