AWS outlines leading trends, developments

Mr Annop says that businesses now can capitalise on cloud services, with easier access and price competitive offerings.

"Cloud everywhere", development of artificial intelligence (AI)-supported software, the rollout of smart Internet of Things (IoT) devices as well as sustainability will be prevailing tech trends to watch in 2022, says Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud service arm under tech giant Amazon.

"Despite economic challenges, businesses will continue to invest in technology, beyond just looking to lower costs or boost efficiency, but focusing more on creating new business models to increase their revenue stream," Annop Siritikul, enterprise sales manager at AWS, told the Bangkok Post.

For example, Thailand-based fashion tech startup Pomelo has adopted personalisation-centric strategies for business while SET-listed Siam Cement Group (SCG), Thailand's largest cement maker and industrial conglomerate, has adopted IoT tech to create innovations.

AWS has also collaborated with Total Access Communication Plc (DTAC) to provide 5G private network solutions capitalising on cloud technology through edge computing.

According to global research firm Gartner, Thailand's IT spending is expected to grow 6.4% year-on-year to 871 billion baht in 2022 with strong growth in enterprise software, driven by continued hybrid work and remote services.

Thailand's growth in the IT outlay is outstanding among Asean countries, Mr Annop said.

According to Mr Annop, businesses can capitalse on cloud services with easier access and price competitive offerings.

They can also leverage new cloud-based services, giving them more time to focus on business development, time to market and investment cost reduction.

Thailand will see the same technology trends in line with the world, such as development of AI-supported software.

Mr Annop says that businesses now can capitalise on cloud services, with easier access and price competitive offerings.

Machine learning (ML) technology will be leveraged for code development and software operations workstreams to help developers become more effective in reviewing codes and fixing bugs.

According to Mr Annop, the cloud can go anywhere, reaching locales via purpose-built devices and specialised solutions. The cloud can be potentially used to transform warehouses, restaurants, retail stores and farms.

IoT devices are gathering steam, particularly in the smart space, especially care homes, he said.

In 2022, homes and buildings will be better equipped with smart devices.

From this year, tech developers will take into account sustainability for decisions to develop systems or applications. They will seek new approaches to cloud architectures that can optimise the needs of the environment and users.

AWS has launched its first edge location in Thailand, where customers can expect up to a 30% improvement in latency for data delivered through this edge location.

Thailand is now connected to the AWS global infrastructure network of more than 220 points of presence (PoPs) in 88 cities across 45 countries, designed and built to deliver the most secure, reliable and scalable cloud computing environment with the highest quality network performance.
