Awkward This Morning blunder as Alison and Dermot spotted chatting with crew live on air

This Morning were caught in an awkward blunder today - as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary chatted with crew live on air.

The pair are fronting the show again today, filling in for Holly Willoughby, who is currently on an extended half-term break amid the news of Phillip Schofield stepping down from ITV with immediate effect. Phillip stepped down from the show after he released a bombshell statement confirming he had lied about an affair with a younger male colleague.

As Ranvir Singh crossed over from ITV's Lorraine to This Morning, Dermot was seen standing up and chatting with the crew, where he asked for a glass of water, whilst Alison was seen scrolling through her phone.

Ranvir continued to vamp as she asked if they could hear her, before Alison awkwardly put her phone down and Dermot turned to the camera for them to start the show. The trio joked about it, as Ranvir asked if they were ready for her now.

Alison and Dermot then went on to reveal what was coming up on the show, before chat soon turned to Dermot's time at Elton John's concert yesterday evening where he fumed over one other guest who spent all her time on her phone.

The pair are fronting This Morning for the whole week as Holly takes her usual half-term break. It comes after her former co-presenter Phillip admitted that he had an affair with a younger male colleague, which he described as "unwise" but not "illegal".

"The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning. I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning," he said.

The pair quickly recovered and revealed what was coming up on the show (ITV)

"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal."

There was also claims of a toxic environment backstage on the show, which Alison and Dermot denied live on air on Monday.

Dermot said: "We know we have been in the news at the moment. But just from both of us, and the whole team here, the crew, the guys downstairs, we love making this show for all of you."

Alison added: "We really do and that's exactly what we're gonna do - we're continuing to do that."
