Awkward Moment! ITV This Morning Host Storms Off Set — Issues Apology Minutes Later

This Morning got off to a light-hearted start on Wednesday (April 9) after host Siân Welby had to awkwardly apologise just minutes into the show—thanks to a funny little mishap involving her phone.

The 38-year-old radio and TV star, who’s stepped in to co-host the ITV favourite alongside Dermot O’Leary during the Easter break, made an unexpected exit from the camera shot during the live broadcast. As she casually wandered off mid-intro, viewers were left wondering what on earth was going on, reported Wales Online.

It turned out, she wasn’t off for a break or fluffing her lines—she was just trying to grab her phone. Moments later, she returned to the set holding up her mobile, laughing off the situation with a quick explanation. “Sorry, I wasn’t being unprofessional, I was grabbing my phone,” she told viewers with a grin.

Dermot, of course, couldn’t let that slide without a cheeky dig, ribbing his co-host for bringing her phone into the studio. “You shouldn’t have your phone in here!” he teased, clearly loving the chance to wind her up.

But it was all very tongue-in-cheek, and the moment ended up being a hit with viewers at home. Siân wasn’t scrolling through Instagram or checking her emails—she was actually trying to show off something useful. She’d been talking about a conversation they were having on the show about a possible remedy for car sickness, and her phone had the evidence.

Holding it up to the camera, she introduced an app that shows a series of dots on the screen—something researchers say might help people who suffer from motion sickness during car journeys. So her phone grab was all in the name of science (and maybe a bit of morning telly fun).

Siân, who’s best known for her work on Capital FM and her rising profile on This Morning, has been winning over fans with her down-to-earth vibe and sense of humour. Her on-screen chemistry with Dermot, already a Friday favourite, has made their stand-in stint a solid hit while regular hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard take a break.

The whole moment was pure live-TV gold—unscripted, funny, and a reminder that sometimes even the pros get caught out. But it’s exactly that kind of slip-up that keeps fans tuning in, and social media lit up with comments praising the pair’s banter and Siân’s relatable reaction.

One fan tweeted, “Only Siân Welby could walk off mid-show for her phone and still make it look cute,” while another wrote, “I’d do the same if I forgot something important, fair play.” It might have been a small moment, but it showed exactly why viewers are loving Siân’s fresh energy on the sofa.
