Well, folks, it’s official — Awhina Rutene has hung up her Married At First Sight (MAFS) boots for good. We were lucky enough to speak to the bride in what she called her final interview about the show. She spilled the tea, wiped her hands clean of the chaos, and declared herself done. Forever.
And honestly? Fair enough.
When asked how she felt now that the show was over, Awhina didn’t hold back. “Great. No, I actually do feel really good,” she told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“I feel like it’s healthy for everyone because as much as it [happened] a few months ago, [the episodes were] all airing.
“None of us really could have a true break from it all. Yeah, I think some of us more than others need that break.”
Awhina faced not only the chaos of her ex-‘husband’ Adrian Araouzou at the reunion, but also was hit with unpacking a rogue text sent by fellow cast member Sierah Swepstone.
Sierah — who was paired with Billy Belcher on the show — sent a text to Adrian that allegedly painted Awhina and the her co-stars in a bad light.

The text saw Awhina calling Adrian “stupid”, saying that he “couldn’t spell” and that his “business is a joke”.
Awhina’s sister Cleo had posted — and quickly deleted — the alleged text on her Instagram Story this week. When asked whether she’d ever share the full context of those texts, Awhina was firm: “No, this is my last interview, and it’s all done. I feel like everyone — the audience — you saw the relationship. I mean, they got glimpses of everything. I don’t need to go into full context.”
She explained her reasoning with a dose of wisdom: “I don’t want to go down that well. I mean, the moment you start, you just open yourself up to the public to criticise and pick apart everything — not just yourself but everyone involved.”

It’s clear Awhina has no intention of reopening old wounds or giving anyone more fuel for drama.
Beyond the texts, Awhina admitted she didn’t feel like she had the chance to fully express herself during the reunion episodes. “I always walked in and I was like, ‘I’ve got a few things I want to say.’ Did I get it off my chest? Like, I was resentful for a few things,” she said.
But instead of finding resolution, she said her attempts at addressing grievances were met with deflection or outright attacks. “As I started to say, ‘Hey, I don’t appreciate XYZ,’ things were deflected back onto me.”
Ultimately, Awhina came to terms with the fact that no amount of explanation would have changed perceptions. “Everyone has their opinions of people. Everyone had their own perspectives and views,” she said.
“I think I could have screamed black and blue about how I was feeling at times, and it would’ve landed on deaf ears.”
Despite all the drama (and let’s be real—there was a lot), Awhina is ready to move on from MAFS entirely. She’s focusing on her normal life — work, family, friends, she was even in Kmart shopping for Easter baskets during her interview.
“I’m done [with the show],” she declared firmly. “I will never speak on it again.”
As for future reality TV appearances? Don’t hold your breath. “I will never do a reality TV show again,” she said.
With MAFS officially behind her, Awhina says she is happy. “Australia was worried about me for a while, but no, I’m happy, genuinely.” And we’re happy for your girlie!!
