Award winning restaurant team's new venue opening with 'top secret menu'

An award winning restaurant team have confirmed their new venue will open next month, with a "top secret" menu.

The food lovers behind Mustard & Co Bistro and Bar, based in Crosby, have confirmed their new venture will open this spring. Liverpool Road Social Bar & Kitchen will open on Liverpool Road, near the former Pioneer Bar and Brasserie, on Mother's Day - March 19 - unless they can open "maybe a few days before".

Mustard & Co Bistro and Bar has established itself as a reputable mainstay on the Merseyside hospitality scene. It's popular for its varied lunch and evening menu, which specialises in locally sourced, seasonal produce.

It has bagged a number of accolades, including an AA Rosette award for culinary excellence in 2022, and it was also voted Liverpool's best restaurant in 2021. Its roast dinners are particularly popular, with Mustard & Co Bistro and Bar ranking fourth in a list of the UK's best Sunday roasts.

The team behind the hit restaurant are hopeful Liverpool Road Social Bar & Kitchen will experience similar success. It will offer a range of dining and drink options, with the owners remaining tight lipped on the menu to deliver a "few surprises" to future diners.

Speaking to the ECHO, Andrew Flynn, maître d' and owner, said: "We want to bring the community back out, get everyone back out of their lockdown shells. Times are harder than ever for the industry.

"The two rosettes we earned were a dream come true and an amazing accolade that we're all super proud of - at Mustard, we were literally ranked with the elite of the city but with that comes a niche market and to be able to survive, we need to open up again to a wider audience."

Andrew, 43, continued: "It's in the name, 'social'. [We want everyone to] come in for a coffee - bring the dog, dine with your family, friends, kids - everyone's welcome. We'll be using the best local produce with a focus on sustainable produce. With our chef patron, Jay Brown, being a new dad himself, we'll be introducing a new low salt healthier children's menu with many dishes he's trialled and tested on his own daughter."

When asked about the menu, Andrew, from Crosby, said: "Sorry, that's definitely top secret at the moment. We have a few surprises up our sleeve but one thing guests can be assured on is that our award winning Sunday roast won't change. Everyone knows what we're capable of with the food - one thing's for sure, we won't disappoint."

The team "acted fast" to secure the venue in a bid to progress in the industry, and offer a bar area and "prominent kerbside outdoor terrace". The site is is being converted from "an old and derelict Ford garage".

Andrew said: "An opportunity arose with an exciting new development in Crosby. Next Big Thing Developments is a local firm and also very good customers of the restaurant - they were so pleased we were interested.

"There was a restructure of ownership - an original owner has now moved on and one of the Mustard chefs, Jay Brown, has now become part-owner of the new venture, along with a new addition, Chris Shaw, who originally formed Mustard & Co with myself back in the day.

"We had to act fast and pretty much instantly made the decision in November to guarantee we could acquire the new site before anyone else. The main reason was a larger site with the addition of a bar area and prominent kerbside outdoor terrace.

"We plan on opening Mother's Day, on the 19th of March. If we can, maybe a few days before. We'll be open seven days and, due to the hot desk office environment and a buzz about the area, we'll be serving coffee, food and drink from 8.30am till late."

Liverpool Road Social is based at 113 Liverpool Road, L23 5TD. For more information, click here.
