Award winning musician Badly Drawn Boy announces Dublin gig

Award winning artist Badly Drawn Boy announced he will be headlining a Dublin gig at the National Stadium this April.

The Mercury Music winner, whose real name is Damon Gough, is set to headline the show, which will feature a career-spanning set of hits and fan favourites. This will be the artist’s first Irish show in five years, and will be part of his “25 Years of Badly Drawn Boy” series of gigs.

“These shows coincide with my 25th anniversary as a recording artist so I’ll be playing songs from across my career, including favourites and some rarities and deep cuts,” Mr Gough said. “I’d like to think this is the show I’d like to see if I was a longtime fan. I’m very much looking forward to it and hope to see you there.”

Fans of the soundtrack of About a Boy might hear their favourite songs from the movie as Gough composed and performed the entire soundtrack. The Hour of Bewilderbeast was the album that got him the Mercury Prize, so we can expect to hear a few hits from there, as well as his most recent critically acclaimed Banana Skin Shoes from 2020.

Badly Drawn Boy will join the constellation of music stars that have been hosted by the National Stadium before, such as the legendary Led Zeppelin and Elton John, alternative rockers Depeche Mode and The Pixies, and more recently Bon Iver and Johnny Marr.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am from Ticketmaster and will be priced at €34.95. The concert date was announced to be Thursday, 20 April. The performance will be fully seated.
