Award-winning chippy set to open in Rutherglen after planning permission is granted

South Lanarkshire is set to welcome an award-winning chippy after bosses decided the region was the plaice to be.

Catch, which currently has three restaurants in Glasgow, will be coming ashore in the Burnside area of Rutherglen next year.

The owners of the chippy have stated they're aiming to open by next summer, after planning permission was granted to take over a site on Stonelaw Road.

Now it has been confirmed that the restaurant coming to the area, on the site of an old petrol station.

In a Facebook post, the fish and chip owners stated: "The Catch Crew are absolutely delighted to be announcing that we are expanding our fleet!

"Following a nail biting wait, planning permission was approved for our new premises and we are excited to officially announce that Burnside is the newest location for us to set sail with Catch Fish And Chips.

"Catch Fish and Chips, which has been recognised as one of the top ten Fish and chip restaurants in the UK in 2022, is bringing its award winning concept to the current derelict site of a former petrol station.

"Our aim is to raise the profile of the Main Street whilst offering potential jobs to the residents of the area and delivering an array of fresh produce and delicious menu choices to suit all taste buds.

"With dining in, and takeaway on offer, it is important for us that we maintain our current good neighbourhood relationships and with this in mind we have our own private car park.

"Work is scheduled to commence in January 2023 with an opening time in the summer months."

Permission was granted at a meeting of South Lanarkshire Council's planning committee earlier this month.

The plans received 13 letters of support and 21 letters of objection, which raised concerns over pollution, increased traffic and the fact the area already has lots of takeaway shops.

The restaurant's Gibson Street branch in Glasgow was hailed as the best chippy in Scotland by Fry magazine earlier this year.
