AN award-winning bakery and deli at one of Scotland’s most famous tourist spots has been put up for sale.
Stacks, which is just metres from the John O’ Groats sign at the north eastern tip of the British mainland, has been put on the market by the mother and daughter team – of Teresa and Rebecca Wymer – who have run it since 2016.
In 2020, Stacks was named the Best Small Restaurant in the Highlands by the Scottish Enterprise Awards, before rebranding from a bistro to a bakery and deli the following year.
The cafe was also recommended by Lonely Planet in 2019/2020 and given a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2018.
Writing on social media, Stacks said it would be open as usual until new owners could take over.
The team wrote: “After over seven amazing years, we are selling Stacks. We wanted to make a few things very clear before the Caithness Rumour Mill starts working hard:
“We are NOT closing. Stacks remains open and trading as usual.
"All outside catering orders, markets, vouchers and events are going ahead as normal. As above, nothing changes while we still hold the keys.
"We LOVE this place. We love our team and could not be prouder of what we have built together here. But life moves on and we are both ready for new adventures.

In a video advertising the business for sale, Stacks said Teresa was looking to enjoy retirement, while Rebecca pursues “a new career direction”.
A statement from Stacks went on: “What started as a plan on the back of an envelope over nine years ago, has become the most incredible journey with the most incredible people we could ever have wished for.
“We’ve seen members of our team grow, develop and become inspiring young adults, we’ve met fascinating people from all over the world and have learned so much about ourselves in the meanwhile.”
Responding to the news online, one person said: “Life will never been the same again in Groats. We will miss all of you. The very best of luck for whatever the next chapter is.”
“I can’t pretend I’m not gutted about this! Thanks for giving us the best local coffee shop, and best wishes for your new ventures,” a second added.
And a third wrote: “So sorry to hear this but so pleased to have visited you and enjoyed your deliveries of brownies and coffee. Good luck to you all in the future.”
The deli is for sale for offers around £360,000 and includes a large outdoor garden space.
