An award-winning Anfield bakery "feared the worst" when it found out this weekend's match between Liverpool and Wolves had been cancelled.
Thankfully, the people of Liverpool still turned up to corner store bakery Homebaked in the shadow of Anfield stadium, in Oakfield Road, with the staff at the food outlet taking to Twitter to share their joy. The fan favourite is known for its commitment to the community as well as its tasty treats.
The community-owned bakery posted in a series of tweets: "A MASSIVE THANK YOU. Yesterday, we feared the worst with the @LFC being postponed at such short notice… but why worry when there’s people like YOU around. From everyone who has come and bought something today to everyone who’s reposted on social media from afar- THANK YOU.

"A special shout out to our staff team at both Oakfield Road and St George’s Hall for pulling together & working through a very unexpectedly busy day. We didn’t know how it would go, but it has been overwhelmingly special to see the support we’ve had in person & online."
In typical fashion, the bakery took the opportunity to share a link to Fans Supporting Foodbanks. It said: "If anyone would like to buy a virtual pie like has been suggested on here- please donate the price of one to our friends @SFoodbanks in our honour to help make up on the donations they’ve missed from today’s game."
It was announced on Friday morning that the games over the weekend up and down the football pyramid wouldn't go ahead due to the death of the Queen on Thursday, September 8.
