Did you know that "Avowed" freezes your character's look during creation? This is a permanent change, but a transmog system allows you to alter armor.
In short, you can change your clothes, but the design or any changes in your character's appearance.
No Altering Your Look in 'Avowed'
After you lock in your character's appearance during creation, you're going to have it for the entire game. Some RPGs offer post-creation edits, but "Avowed" does not have any mechanism for changing important elements of your character's look, according to Polygon.
What You Can't Change
Once you set your character's look, you can no longer change the following:
- Body type: You're stuck with your first choice.
- Skin tone: No in-game methods of changing complexion.
- Voice: The tone you choose is what you keep.
- Name: Your name is locked in once selected.
- Gender identifier: The gender of your character can't be changed.
- Hair options: Cut, color, and facial hair are your choices for good.
- Facial features: Eye shape, nose structure, and other facial characteristics cannot be modified.
- Cosmetic details: Makeup, scars, and so on remain the same.
- Godlike features: If you choose fungal-like protrusions, they're irreversible.
Furthermore, though you can spend your attribute points later in the game (for a price that increases based on your level), your background is set once chosen.
How You Can Customize Your Look
Whereas permanent character traits are immutable, "Avowed" does provide a transmog system where you can change the appearance of your armor without changing its stats.
What You Can Change
Using the transmog system, you can change the visual form of your gear, such as:
- Body armor
- Boots
- Gloves
It allows you to copy one armor's look and transfer it to another piece, provided that both pieces are in your inventory.
How to Use Transmog in 'Avowed'
To modify your gear's look, follow these steps:
- Select the armor piece you want to wear visually.
- Press the left trigger (on a controller) to apply the transmog effect.
- An eye symbol will appear on the altered gear to indicate the change.
Important Notes:
- Carrying extra armor sets purely for aesthetics is a viable strategy.
- If you're running low on space, you can send items to your party camp stash by holding an item and pressing "X" (on the controller).
- However, once the armor set is in your stash, you can't transmog it until it's returned to your inventory.
Viewing Your Character in 'Avowed'
"Avowed" is largely a first-person RPG, but if you want to appreciate your character's personalized armor set, the game features a third-person mode for exploring.
"Avowed" may not let you edit your character's appearance after creating it, but the transmog system allows flexibility in customizing your equipment. If you desire a dark warrior look or a glamorous adventurer looks, your armor selection allows you to be unique in the Living Lands.
