Most who travel by plane will have an allocated seat, and if they want perks like more leg room or a guaranteed window spot they may have to dish outs some extra cash
However, if you are jetting off with an airline that allows you to check pre-booked seats, keep an eye out for empty rows. According to TikTok user @chelsbadger there's a good chance you'll be able to sit on this empty row and have it all to yourself.
As reported by the Mirror, the avid flyer clarified it will only work for a flight that 'isn't fully booked'.
She shared her tip in a TikTok clip which has since received 237,000 views and more than 8,000 likes.
She explained: "I recently got a whole row to myself on Qantas and this is how I did it. Once you get to your gate, you're going to want to wait until it's about ten minutes before boarding.
"Open up the Qantas app, then click the seat selection tool. If there's a whole row free or even if there's just a better seat - make a mental note of that seat number.
"You won't be able to select the new seat in the app as it's too close to boarding, so simply go up to the desk and politely ask to have it changed. So easy and I can't believe this worked!"
Many TikTok users who watched the now-viral video took to the comments to share their thoughts.
One wrote: "I did this flying home from NT, changed it on app and had boarding pass ready on phone."
Meanwhile, another added: "I've made mental notes of empty rows whilst literally boarding the plane and then just sitting in those seats upon boarding, works every time."
A different person penned: "Shhh keep it secret," but Chelsea replied: "This gal doesn't gate keep."
Qantas isn't currently running flight's directly from Scotland, but you can book flights from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen which will connect to a Qantas flight through the airline.
