Avengers Endgame: Captain America's moment with Thor's hammer explained

How will the MCU ever top this moment?

Avengers: Endgame has already smashed box office records and found adoring critics and fans alike.

But one of the biggest moments in the film belongs to one character and one object and had crowds cheering in unison.

If you don't wanna know more about this moment then do not read on!

Warning: spoilers for Avengers Endgame

One of the standout moments of Avengers: Endgame had to be the moment when during the huge climactic battle, Captain America (Chris Evans) wielded Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.

The hammer had been destroyed in the present day by Hela (Cate Blanchett) in Thor: Ragnarok, but Thor (Chris Hemsworth) had retrieved it through the use of time travel in Avengers: Endgame by taking it from the time period of Thor: The Dark World.

With Thor taken down for a period, in the new film, Steve Rogers steps up to the plate and wields the hammer and his own shield to take on Thanos and his army.

So, Steve was worthy this whole time?

It was definitely hinted at in a prior scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when the entire Avengers team attempted to lift the hammer - which, according to legend, can only be wielded by a figure who is worthy.

The rest of the team, aside from Black Widow, tried to lift it, until Steve tried to and the hammer shook slightly, prompting Thor to look shocked.

But Steve then said he couldn't lift it.

Knowing Steve, he probably just wanted to be humble and not humiliate Thor and keep it to himself.

Little sweetie pie.
