Myenergi has been buoyed by a major national award win as it deals with a drop off in demand for products, leading to proposed job losses.
Its flagship Zappi device was named Best Home Charger at the Auto Trader New Car Awards - the first year the category has been included. While the addition underlines the direction of travel, the accolade comes as Myenergi works through a major consultation process as the Grimsby company looks to reduce staff numbers following staggering early growth.
The eco-smart device was judged the best based on real-world driver feedback from more than 220,000 UK car owners, scoring higher than all over rivals across 16 criteria. They ranged from reliability and performance to appearance, cost and overall user satisfaction. Respondents were impressed with Zappi’s solar compatibility, as well as technical support received from the customer service team at the Pioneer Park base in Stallingborough.

And the employees were praised as the award was collected.
Jordan Brompton, co-founder and chief marketing officer at Myenergi, said: “Having Zappi recognised as Best Home Charger shows that EV owners really appreciate the care and attention that we put into each and every device – testament to our amazing team across the business, who are dedicated to delivering amazing products for our customers.
“At Myenergi, we’re committed to changing the way people think about energy, with a diverse range of technologies designed to improve sustainability and minimise mains consumption. Since launching our first generation Zappi device, we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of units installed all over the world. However, despite this rapid growth, we’ve stayed true to our promises of excellent performance, outstanding customer service and unmatched reliability.”
It is understood around 100 of the 450 roles could be shed by the company after new orders failed to meet anticipated levels after a meteoric rise. The last financial year had seen sales soar from £17 million to £53 million. The company has blamed the cost-of-living crisis as well as the loss of incentives for making the switch to electric for the stutter as it aims to set itself up for sustainable operations. It is two-thirds of the way through a 45-day consultation, following the mid-May announcement to staff.
Following the presentation of the award, Erin Baker, Auto Trader’s editorial director, said: “It’s clear that EV owners love their Myenergi chargers with users ranking it top in the inaugural Auto Trader Home Charger of the Year Award. Myenergi scored highest in overall satisfaction with owners praising the ease of installation and value Myenergi home chargers offer. Congratulations Myenergi.”
