Author Cathy Kelly has been voted off Dancing With The Stars Ireland

Cathy Kelly has become the first celebrity booted off Dancing With The Stars Ireland.

The Rte One show saw the author lose her chance at lifting the glitterball trophy after they received the fewest votes on the show.

Speaking afterwards, Cathy said she felt like she "let down" her dance partner Maurizio Benenato.

She said: "It has been an amazing experience, it was been so much fun, I have had so much fun with Maurizio."

Earlier in the night, Cathy's tango failed to impress judges Loraine Barry, Brian Redmond and Arthur Gourounlian as they scored her just 15 points.

The show also saw a temporary new glamorous host alongside Nicky Byrne as Lottie Ryan stepped in for Jennifer Zamparelli, who was forced to miss the weekend show after she contracted Covid-19.

Dressed in an off the shoulder black dress, the daughter of the late Gerry Ryan - and 2020 champion - said she was "honoured" to be hosting the show, while also wishing Jennifer a speedy recovery.

First up on the ballroom floor was Paralympian swimmer Ellen Keane and pro dancer Stephen Vincent, impressing the judges with her cha-cha, scoring an impressive 21 points.

Former Rte news anchor waltzed his way on the dance floor with his pro partner Emily Barker - but failed to impress the show's judges, scoring a low 11 points.

But during the show an unlikely online scrap emerged between Rte's weather presenter Nuala Carey and Brian Redmond after she lashed out at the judge's three points - saying "judges were far too harsh. 3 points, really??!!!"

But Brian hit back last night and said Nuala often delivers bad news and should be used to it.

Comedian Neil Delamare showed his naturally funny side when his Charleston with pro dancer Kylee Vincent was widely praised by the judges.

Brian said it had "nice comedic value" and was "over the top" - saying "you can dance a bit".

Loraine said his performance was "jam packed" predicting he was about to rake in the good marks. He scored 22 points.

A confident Missy Keating showed off her hip action with her energetic samba, scoring 21 points, with her pro dance partner Ervinas Merfeldas.

But Arthur said he wanted more, while Brian said she needs to believe more in her own technique.

Loraine agreed the technical style of the dance restricted her, but said it was a "tremendous effort" for a "very difficult dance".

Host Lottie Ryan also teased the pair on comments about their chemistry, with Ervinas saying "it's very important to have chemistry.

If people can see that we are enjoying ourselves, well that's all that matters."

Pro cyclist Nicolas Roche and pro dancer Karen Byrne scored 16 points for their Viennese Waltz - but Karen looked taken aback by the low scoring.

Brian said he loved how Nicolas "shoved his critique back in his face", saying it was a "pretty solid improvement" from the first show two weeks ago.

Love Island star Matthew MacNaab flaunted his abs on the dance floor last night with his pro dance partner Laura Nolan as they took on the jive - but it wasn't enough for the Antrim native as the judges scored just 11 points.

Grainne Seoige put on a busty display and released her inner femme fatale as she danced the paso doble.

Arthur joked: "Grainne you're making me sweat", saying her confidence makes her look like a different person.

He praised her dance partner John Nolan for not playing it safe with the Galway native.

But Brian said parts of her dance was a little bit "skippy the bush kangaroo" rather than a lioness, but said he loved her new siren look.

Judge Loraine said she had shed her "ice queen" image to "flamenco senorita".

She scored 17 points.

Rugby 7s star Jordan Conroy showed off his energetic quickstep with pro dancer Salome Chachuaa scoring 19 points - but Brian said it
needed to be cleaned up as it was slightly manic.

Erica Cody scored 23 points for her Foxtrot with pro dancer Denys

Samson and champion jockey Nina Carberry put on a sultry display with her sexy rumba, scoring 25 points.

A stunned Loraine said she was "tongue struck" at how good her dance was, while Arthur said she was a sexy woman saying she was a panther looking at her prey.

But Brian said he felt something was "missing in the middle", however the judges scored her 25 points.

Ending the night was Aslan star Billy McGuinness who entertained audiences with his "cheesy" samba with pro dancer Hannah Kelly - but only scored 13 points.

"You're definitely here from a good time but not for a long time," said Brian but Loraine said "this is what you call entertainment and I
cannot argue with it", while Arthur added it was a "fabulous" way to close the dance show.
