Austrian Audio Announces Two New Headsets For Gamers And Business

The PG16 is a new gaming headset from Austrian Audio. It promises a lot for the money and the build quality looks great. Markus Morawetz

Attention all gamers! Premium headphone and microphone manufacturer, Austrian Audio, has used its considerable expertise to create a couple of new headsets for gaming and business use. The two new products are the PG16 Pro Gaming Headset and the PB17 Professional Business Headset and they both share much of the same technology found in the award-winning Austrian Audio Hi-X65, Hi-X55 and Hi-X50 pro-audio headphones.

Both headsets use Austrian Audio’s acclaimed 44mm Hi-X drivers that can accurately reproduce a frequency range from a rumbling 12Hz to a squeaky to 24 kHz and with zero latency. With the PG16, gamers can hear game soundtracks with clarity and high-resolution sound as well as spatial audio for quickly locating even the quietest sounds. Meanwhile, business users can get the same levels of detail from the PB17 for great speech intelligibility as well as fatigue-free listening thanks to the closed-back design.

Austrian Audio has equipped the PB17 and PG16 with a pro-grade boom microphone that transmits the user’s voice without cut-outs, choppiness, or muffling. The boom mic automatically mutes when it’s lifted out of the way. PG16 users can also use the included Spatial Sound Card software from New Audio Technology for a dynamic 7.1 surround sound.

The PB17 is designed for professional office and business use but Austrian Audio says it’s also great for listening to videos and music. The PB17’s closed-back design prevents sounds from entering or escaping the earcups. Calls can be made without distraction thanks to passive noise cancelation. Additionally, the PB17 has a high-quality boom microphone that mutes simply flipping it upwards. The PB17 can be folded away and safely stowed in the supplied carry case.

Austrian Audio claims that the PG16 meets the highest demands of gamers thanks to high-resolution sound and a foldable design. The robust metal construction of the headband and hinges ensures maximum stability and durability. The soft ear pads are made with a special “slow retention” memory foam and the headset’s low weight of just 265g ensures optimal comfort, even during long gaming sessions. The closed-back design offers passive noise cancelation and eliminates ambient noise so players can concentrate fully on their game.

Both headsets connect using the included 1.4 m cable terminated with a 3.5 mm jack plug. The PB17 includes a 3.5mm (1/8") TRRS to USB-A adapter while the PG16 includes a 3.5mm (1/8") TRRS to 2x 3.5mm (1/8") TRS adapter.

Pricing & Availability: The Austrian Audio PG16 gaming headset is available now and costs $169 / £129/ €139. The PB17 business headset is also available immediately and is priced at $169 / £119 / €139.
