An Australian-born woman who died in a landslide at a village in Bali has been named in local media.

Two bodies, identified by Indonesian media as Australian-born Angelina Smith, 47, and her partner, Dutch national Luciano Kross, 50, have been removed from the debris.

An official told reporters in Bali that it appears the couple were asleep when the landslide happened at Jatiluwih village in the early hours of Thursday morning, following torrential rain.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian woman.

"We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time," a department spokeswoman said.

"Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment."

The bodies have reportedly been taken to Denpasar.

Landslides, flooding and fallen trees are common hazards in parts of Indonesia during heavy rainfall.

Jatiluwih is located north of the island's capital Denpasar, and is known for its picturesque rice terraces.
