Survivor fans, gather ’round. We’ve got the inside scoop from host Jonathan LaPaglia himself on the upcoming season of Australian Survivor, and it’s shaping up to be a cracker.
First things first, Brains v. Brawn is back, baby! And according to LaPaglia, the casting team has outdone themselves this time. “I think they’ve done a really great job of casting this season,” he gushed to PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“There’s a great spectrum of different types of players and characters.”
And he’s right! From supposed creative risk-takers like Myles and AJ to big personalities such as Logan, Laura, and Zara who apparently “bring a lot of conflict” to the show, this season’s got it all. Max, Kent and Nash are meant to be “the resident class clowns”.
JLP even spills about a “resident rapper” named Zen, who’s apparently “hilarious”.

But don’t think it’s all smooth sailing for these castaways. Mother Nature’s decided to play her own game this season. “At one point we actually had to stop the challenge, halfway through… because of lightning,” JLP revealed.
“Lightning came so close to this water challenge that we had to stop it, and we didn’t actually get to complete it.
“It is kind of a brutal environment.”
LaPaglia says that Survivor‘s marketing team has been promoting this season as “the most explosive season yet”, and they’re not wrong. “It is in the sense that we have some really big personalities who clash. But I think Survivor, by its nature, is explosive, and when you think about it, you’ve got a bunch of strangers who come together, who need to work together to survive the elements, survive the challenges, and at the same time, they’re trying to vote each other out every second night, and then at some point in the game, the people you’re voting out will decide if you deserve to win the game.
“So, by design, it’s a pressure cooker, right? It’s going to be explosive and I think that has been turned up to 11 in this season.”
When it comes to the age-old question of brains vs. brawn, our boy JLP’s not sitting on the fence. “If you’re forcing me to pick one, I think I’m going to go with strategy,” he admitted to us.
“At the end of the day… this is a social game that is heavily rooted in strategy.” So there you have it, folks. Time to start working those mental muscles!
As for how Survivor‘s evolved over the years, JLP reckons it’s like comparing dial-up internet to 5G. “It’s a much faster game. It’s a lot more aggressive,” he said.
“People are much more inclined now to get to it the minute they step on that beach.”

And if you’re champing at the bit for Survivor: Australia v The World tea, JLP’s got you covered. We’re talking Aussie legends like Shonee Bowtell, and George Mladenov facing off against US icons Tony Vlachos, Cirie Fields and Parvati Shallow.
It’s a 16-day “hyper season” that even had LaPaglia skeptical at first. But apparently, these seasoned players hit the ground running.
“It seemed to work really, really well. The players really embraced it,” LaPaglia gushed.
“I think it’s going to be a crowd pleaser for the audience, for sure.”

So there you have it, all the tea we go from JLP is pointing towards a cracker season of Australian Survivor. With a cast that includes everyone from poker champions to powerlifters, and even a witch (yes, you read that right), we are simply so on!!
Get ready to watch these castaways outwit, outplay, and outlast their way to victory when Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn premiering on Monday, 17 February at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play. Let’s gooooo!!
