The 2025 Australian Open will kick off this week with the men’s and women’s singles draws revealed on Thursday, January 9th. Defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka will open the tennis season as odds-on favorite to win the first grand slam tournament of the year. Jannik Sinner Favored To Win His Third Grand Slam
Fresh off of an incredible finish to the 2024 campaign, Sinner will come into the first grand slam tournament of the season as the odds-on favorite. Last season, the 23-year-old cemented himself as one of the heirs to the throne in men’s tennis by winning the Australian Open and the U.S. Open, along with four Masters 1000 titles. The current world No. 1, Sinner enters Melbourne Park with +145 odds to repeat as champion. That gives him an implied 40.8% chance to win the tournament.
Repeating as champion won’t be as easy as predicted in 2025. That’s because Sinner opens the season under a cloud of controversy after testing positive for a steroid twice last season. Players were reportedly “kept in the dark” about the doping allegations until after the season was over, and though Sinner avoided a ban from the International Tennis Integrity, that decision is being challenged by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Men’s 2025 Australian Open Odds
The 2025 Australian Open will swing into action this week with a familiar face atop the odds leaderboard. Sinner, the 2024 Aussie Open champion, will come into the first grand slam as the favorite with +145 odds. Not far behind, Carlos Alcaraz (+225) and Novak Djokovic (+275) are expected to be among the top contenders while Daniil Medvedev (+700) and Alexander Zverev (+900) are the only players with at least a 10% chance to win the event. Meanwhile, Holger Rune and Ben Shelton will be among the most popular longshots at +5000 odds apiece.
